History
In July 2017, the Franciscans of Poznan, who also minister in Wschowa, received from the local parish of St Stanislaus the Bishop and Martyr the building at 2A Klasztorna Street, which had been abandoned for many years, after the former Catholic primary school (1832-1939) and later the state kindergarten (1947-2001), together with a courtyard and outbuildings. The aforementioned building was architecturally connected to the monastery.
In 2018, the paths of the Franciscans somehow crossed with the environment of the Erickson Institute in Poland and this was one of the main inspirations for the creation of the Centre.
In 2019, the Board of Directors of the Province of St Francis of Assisi decided on the form of operation and development of the property as it is today. Numerous conceptual and design works, lasting more than two years, were therefore undertaken, including specialised arrangements with professionals from the Oskar Bielawski Neuropsychiatric Centre of Wielkopolska in Kościan, the Necessarius Centre in Jarocin, especially the Addiction Treatment Clinic, which has had a contract with the National Health Fund for more than 20 years, and the Polish Erickson Institute based in Łódź.
A foundation was established for the future operation of the Centre on 13 September 2021, which became a legal entity on 15 November 2021.
Also in September 2021, thanks to the support of Ms Małgorzata Gośniowska Koli, the Franciscans managed to interest Mr Mateusz Morawiecki, the Prime Minister, in the idea of the Centre and to obtain both moral and financial support (for 22 months) in the amount of almost PLN 4.7 million. The cost of the creation of the entire Centre is approximately PLN 7.5 million. On 18 October 2021, multi-discipline construction and assembly works began, lasting until 29 December 2023.
In the meantime, under the auspices of the Association of Christian Psychologists, work began on recruiting a substantive manager and a team of psychologists and psychotherapists, creating a programme, statutes and rules and standards for the work of the Centre.
The registration of the Entity Performing Treatment Activities with the Lubuskie Voivodship Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski took place on 11.01.2024. In turn, the contract for cooperation with the National Health Fund was signed on 16.01.2024.
OIKOS means home in Greek. The centre is meant to be such a home for people, a friendly place. Integration is a social phenomenon which, according to the Polish Language Dictionary, consists in the process of creating a whole from parts. Re-integration is a renewed process, as if it were a secondary process, undertaken following an earlier breakdown of that whole (in the individual sense - a person, in the social sense - a community or family).
As you can see, the name is quite mysterious, partly revealing and partly concealing. The authors surely mean it not to be socially stigmatising, because probably as a society and individually we are not yet ready to openly address the topic of substance abuse or behavioural addictions. Substance or behavioural abuse is not an accusation for us, but is simply a fact.
The following organisational units will ultimately operate within this entity:
- mental health clinic for adults
- mental health clinic for children and adolescents
- psychological counselling centre for adults
- psychological counselling centre for children and adolescents
- day unit for alcohol treatment
- addiction treatment clinic
- health promotion department - prevention.
